International Freestyle Calisthenics Competition – Official Rules & Structure

1. Competition Overview

  • Format: Competitive, open-age, invitation-only event.
  • Number of Athletes: 30 athletes invited to the Qualification Round.
  • Objective: Determine the Top 5 athletes through multiple rounds of freestyle and challenge-based events.
  • Equipment Allowed: Wrist wraps, chalk, calisthenics equipment. Shoes are optional.
  • Attire: Professional, clean, and non-offensive sportswear recommended for broadcast purposes.

2. Competition Phases

2.1 Qualification Round

  • Duration: 1 minute per athlete.
  • Format: Individual performance showcasing freestyle calisthenics skills.

Scoring

Judges rank all performances. Points are assigned as follows:

  • 1st = 10 points
  • 2nd = 9 points
  • 3rd = 8 points
  • 4th = 7 points
  • 5th = 6 points
  • 6th = 5 points
  • 7th = 4 points
  • 8th = 3 points
  • 9th = 2 points
  • 10th = 1 point

Outcome

The Top 10 athletes advance to the Semi-Finals based on total points.


2.2 Semi-Finals

  • Duration: 2 rounds of 1 minute per athlete.
  • Format: 1-vs-1 battle matchups:
  • 1st vs 10th
  • 2nd vs 9th
  • 3rd vs 8th
  • 4th vs 7th
  • 5th vs 6th

Scoring

  • The winner of each battle receives 10 points.
  • No athlete is eliminated during this stage.

2.3 Challenge Round

Format

  • 2 Dynamic Challenges (movement-based)
  • 2 Static Challenges (strength/hold-based)

Challenges may vary from event to event to increase variety and unpredictability. Challenges might be announced the day of the competition only to keep an element of surprise to each event.

Attempts

  • Athletes have 3 attempts per challenge.
  • Only the best attempt counts.
  • Athletes may stop after 1 or 2 attempts to conserve energy.

Scoring

  • Each challenge is worth a maximum of 5 points.
  • Maximum possible score: 20 points total (4 challenges × 5 points).

Outcome

Combined points from the Semi-Finals and Challenge Round determine the Top 5 athletes advancing to the Finals. A 6th athletes might take part in the Final in case of a tie between the 5th & 6th place.


2.4 Finals

  • Duration: 3 rounds of 60 seconds per athlete.
  • Format: Individual freestyle performances performed one after another.

Scoring

  • Points from previous rounds are reset.
  • Judges evaluate only the Final Round performances to determine the final ranking.

Outcome

Final placements are determined for the Top 5 athletes.

 

1st = 2,500$ CAD

2nd = 500$ CAD

3rd = 300$ CAD

 


Judging System

The judging system remains the same throughout all phases of the competition. Judges evaluate athletes simultaneously in four categories during every round:

  • Statics
  • Dynamics
  • Combinations

 Scoring Criteria

 

Statics (0–10 Points)

  • Maximum 5 points for push elements
  • Maximum 5 points for pull elements

Criteria

  • Correct posture maintained for at least 3 seconds
  • Cleanliness of execution
  • Creativity
  • Endurance
  • Grip difficulty and apparatus difficulty
  • Variety of static elements

Dynamics (0–10 Points)

Criteria

  • Cleanliness
  • Creativity
  • Endurance
  • Fluidity
  • Quality of catches
  • Height of rotations
  • Release and regrasp elements

Transition Definition

A transition is defined as any element where at least one hand remains on the bar.

Dynamic Bonuses

Up to +1.5 bonus points may be awarded for dynamic combinations featuring:

  • At least one super trick
  • Extreme complexity
  • Multiple turn variations

Combinations (0–10 Points)

  • Maximum 5 points for combinations involving statics or power movements
  • Maximum 5 points for combinations involving dynamic elements

Combination Requirements

A valid combination must contain at least 3 linked elements.

Criteria

  • Clean execution
  • Creativity
  • Endurance
  • Fluidity
  • Order and arrangement of elements
  • Number of elements within the combination
  • Durability and consistency of the combination

Penalties

Penalties may be applied if a combination is interrupted, including:

      • Sitting on the bar
      • Unnecessary pauses between elements

Redemption Rule

If an athlete fails a dynamic skill but immediately retries and successfully lands it on the second attempt, only a 0.5-point deduction will be applied.

Failure Deductions

  • 1 failed attempt = −2 points
  • 2 failed attempts = −4 points
  • 3 failed attempts = −6 points

Failure deductions are applied to the athlete’s total score.


Cash Prizes

  • 🥇 1st Place — $2,500 CAD
  • 🥈 2nd Place — $500 CAD
  • 🥉 3rd Place — $300 CAD
